U Kyaw Nyunt Oo (third from right), Permanent Secretary of the Military Council’s Foreign Affairs Department, is representing Myanmar at the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held on July 9.

Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamed Hassan said today that all stakeholders in Myanmar must create an environment conducive to holding an election.

Malaysia currently holds the rotating chair of ASEAN.

The Malaysian foreign minister made the remarks at the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Kuala Lumpur today.

The Malaysian prime minister also attended the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting today and made a speech, and an international journalist covering the meeting said that the prime minister also included the Myanmar election in his speech.

However, he said that it remains to be seen whether the Malaysian foreign minister’s statement on the Myanmar election was made as the rotating chair of ASEAN or on behalf of ASEAN as a whole.
